A Non-toxic Antiperspirant!

October 23, 2008

The scary news is out there about anti-perspirants.  But, who wants to have smelly, sweaty armpits?  What is a person to do?

I invite you to do your own research about the aluminum in anti-perspirants.  Aluminum is absorbed by the skin and into the blood stream when applied in your anti-perspirant and is a neuro-toxin.  Daily use results in chronic exposure to aluminum and the short term results can include memory loss, learning difficulty, loss of coordination, disorientation, mental confusion and digestive difficulties.  Alzheimer’s is one of the possible long term effects of aluminum exposure.

Besides the aluminum concern, anti-perspirants prevent your body from persipiring.  Now granted, it is not fun to perspire, but it is the body’s way to rid itself of toxins.  It is a healthy thing to do!  And, we certainly know that in today’s world we are exposed to toxins all day long.  So, it is important to allow our bodies to get rid of those toxins.  But, what to do?

I’ve been trying to solve that problem myself.  I’ve tried deodorants with no aluminum, but I ended up sticky and a little smelly by the end of the day.  ICK!  So, I did some reading and thinking and discovered something very interesting.  WHITE VINEGAR!  Who would think!?  White vinegar neutralizes bacteria and thus odor.  So, I tried it.  After my shower I applied white vinegar with a cotton ball, let it dry, and it was magic!  No odor all day long.  Now, white vinegar is cheap, and natural.  You could also put it in a spray bottle and apply it that way.  Who would think that non-toxic odor control could be that simple?   A tip though, don’t shave right before you apply the vinegar, or it will sting.  Try shaving the night before.

I am a new convert and wanted to share my secret with you.  Ditch the commercial stuff, save some money, and do your body a big favor.  Let me know how it works for you!

I am honestly floored at how effective this tip is! Thank you so much! I have tried and tried again to find an effective natural deodorant, but never found one I thought was really worthy.
I have put some white vinegar in a spray mister, and love this! I must send this link to all my girlfriends. Thanks Doreen!

I’m glad it is working for you! I’ve even used the vinegar spray after my work-out when I wanted to lounge in the sun before showering. It completely neutralizes any odor. I also recently soaked a smelly dish rag in vinegar – miraculous. Have fun!
